AMD unveils its first Ryzen CPU with 3D V-Cache, previews Zen 4 for late 2022

Whenever we talk about gaming CPUs for desktop PCs, the AMD Zen architecture was at the top but Intel has taken over the market with its Alder Lake CPUs by storm. However, the game has changed with AMD revealing their first Ryzen CPU with 3D V-Cache Zen 4 chips that will be coming later this year. The 5nm Zen 4 chips will come with the Ryzen 7000 series. It is expected to come with a whole new design that would have an AM5 LGA socket.

AMD has announced during their recent event that this CPU will be launched in the second half of the year 2022. Even though tech enthusiasts can’t wait to get their hands on this fascinating component, AMD has claimed that it would be worth the wait. In addition to all that AMD demonstrated that a Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) chip that runs Halo infinite with all cores will surely surpass 5.0 GHz;

AMD and Intel have been battling for the top processor manufacturer for years and AMD looks to fire back on Intel’s Alder Lake with its Ryzen 7 5800x3D CPUs. The need for buying a used CPU processor would be no more, as AMD looks to even the playing field with this innovative gaming CPU. This incredible processor features AMD’s new 3D V-Cache technology that offers a 96MB L3 cache on a single processor with the help of 3D-stacked SRAM.

AMD claims that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be the fastest gaming processor in the world, and to prove this during the session AMD compared this processor with the benchmarks of Intel’s flagship Core-i9 12900K to prove their claims.

The Beginning of the X3D Era:

Even though AMD already uses the 3D V-Cache technology for its Milan-X processors that are used for the data center but AMD’s Ryzen-7 5800X3D will be the first chip for desktops that offers this technology to be offered in the consumer market.

Nevertheless, if you are unaware of the 3D V-Cache technology, it can be best defined as an effective new technique to fuse an additional 7nm SRAM cache that uses hybrid bonding. This triples the amount of L3 cache on each Ryzen die, as the 7nm SRAM cache is vertically stacked on top of the Ryzen computer chipset.

Last Year at Computex, the CEO of AMD “Lisa Su” demonstrated that 3D V-Cache can enable up to 192 MB of L3 cache on a single consumer chip but it only applies to Ryzen chips that feature two dies. The AMD’s Ryzen-7 5800X3D only offers a single die with 32MB that becomes a total of 96MB with 3D-stacked SRAM. So the real question is will AMD introduce higher models for the foreseeable future such as Ryzen 9 5900X/5950X.

When comparing Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 7 5800X, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a base clock frequency of 3.4GHz and a boost clock frequency of 4.5 GHz, which means that it has been reduced. However, it still features the same eight Zen 3 cores and 16 threads but with an extended L3 cache, it has surpassed its predecessors with a huge leap.

Gaming Benchmarks of AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D:

AMD has just given a teaser of what seems to be the ultimate gaming processor that features 3D stacked SRAM that can deliver throughput up to 2TB/s between two dies. This new chip architecture, t certainly delivers a jump that can be expected. With AMD’s internal benchmarks and external vendor benchmarks, this processor looks remarkable.

According to the benchmarks, it shows an average of 15% better performance when compared with AMD’s top CPU that is Ryzen 7 5800X. Even though AMD claims that this processor is the best gaming CPU in the entire world but these claims cannot be justified completely before it is launched in the market. However, the extended L3 Cache can make a great impact that could be a significant game-changer for AMD.

AMD also compares the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with the currently raining top processor Intel Core-i9 12900k and in this comparison, AMD has an upper hand with slim leads and three titles resulting in a tie. The overall comparison of all six titles ends up with a 7% average lead for AMD. On the other hand, this is limited to games that don’t justify the true picture.

5nm ZEN 4 Chips for AMD’S Ryzen 7000 Series:

AMD looks to develop a futuristic design with their upcoming Ryzen 7 5800X3D, as it will drop into an AM5 LGA socket that will support PCIe 5.0 and DDR5. This processor is designed with an interface matching Alder Lake in terms of upfront connectivity. This marks the progression of AMD, as it looks to depart from its long-lived AM4 PGA socket to a futuristic LGA AM5 socket. AMD has made it clear that despite the entirely different LGA 1718 AM5 socket interface, it will still support AM4 coolers.

Many rumors are stating that a conversion kit will be required because of the AM5 socket’s higher Z-height. Even if you would require a conversion kit, it is an indication that AMD will keep the AM4 coolers alive for quite some time. AMD appears to have an extra edge with this piece of sophisticated equipment at their disposal but nothing can be said for sure before this processor is launched in the market and available for sale.

AMD has made a statement when they revealed the launch of their newest CPU, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D which seems to be a leading processor in the market. AMD has announced to launch this processor in the second half of the year 2022 and claim that it would be the best gaming processor available. Claims can only be justified once it is actually in the market.
